MEET OUR FACILITATORS

PROF. S.O AKINDELE

Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele is a prolific researcher with over 20-years post-qualification experience in Geospatial application for Natural Resource Management. In addition to his doctoral degree in Forest Biometrics, he obtained a certificate in GIS from ITC/University of Twente (Netherlands) and designed the curriculum for GIS training in the Department of Forestry and Wood Technology, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). Professor Akindele was the pioneer Director of the Centre for Space Research and Applications (CESRA) at the Federal University of Technology, Akure. He has been teaching “GIS Applications” in Forestry for several years and has supervised many Student projects focused on or related toGIS. Professor Akindele has served as resource person in several GIS training workshops including the recent GIS training organized by the Nigeria's Tropical Biology Association (NTBA). He has (co)led many GIS projects especially within the realms of natural resource management and has built a strong reputation within the discipline over the years. Currently, Professor Akindele is the Dean at the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, FUTA and he is unrelenting in his intrinsic passion to inspire new possibilities and solutions with the application of GIS in Nigeria.

DR. JULIUS ADEWOPO
Dr. Julius Adewopo is a Research Fellow and Geospatial Analyst at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). He earned a PhD in Soil Science from the University of Florida (USA), M.Sc. in Forest Resources from University of Arkansas-Monticello (USA), and a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry and Wood Technology from Federal University of Technology, Akure (Nigeria).  He is an ESRI-certified Spatial Analyst and he has acquired ~7 years multidisciplinary experiences in the application of geospatial technologies to address resource management problems such as resource proximity of wood industry in Arkansas, scale effect on soil carbon modeling in a subtropical watershed, and spatial dynamics of a noxious invasive species in Florida, all in the USA.  He is currently leading geospatial aspects of a BMGF-funded project to address yield gap in Nigerian maize-production systems, and he collaborates with colleagues from other institutions for overall project implementation in other target geographies (mainly Tanzania and Ethiopia). Dr. Adewopo will be bringing in a rich blend of his experiences to teach practical applications of core GIS principles and tools, while simplifying complex concepts to ensure effective learning during this course. His outstanding accomplishments have earned him numerous recognitions including award for excellence from International Union of Forestry Research Organization (IUFRO), induction into the reputable Gamma Sigma Delta Agriculture Honor Society, and top presentation awards at International Conferences.

Mr UyiAsemota is the C.E.O and Managing Partner of Asemed Int’l, a leading geospatial and general ICT training and consulting firm Based in Abuja Nigeria. He recently graduated from a dual Master degree program in Bio-Economy and Natural Resource Management (ECORES) and Executive Masters of Business Administration (eMBA) from the University of Eastern Finland .Before then, obtained a Bachelor degree in Forestry and Wood Technology from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (Nigeria). He is a Geospatial analyst with training certification in Geospatial Intelligence from the Pen State University USA amongs other, he is an authorized Supermap representative and trainer in the Region. Uyi has over 4years of  multidisciplinary experiences in the application of geospatial technologies to address management problems both within and outside Nigeria such as the Landuse change Mapping of of Obiakpor LGA River state, Great green wall Project  Mapping, Vegetative and Landuse Mapping of Owo Forest reserve, Estimating terrestrial Carbon of Above ground forest Biomass in Bobori Reserve Ghana, Facility Mapping and House numbering/tagging system in Okyekrom Municipal assembly Ghana,  amongst others. With a high sense of Urgency, to be at the fore front of the geospatial revolution in Nigeria, He has remain a leading facilitator of various thematic Hands on GIS training across different age divide from the students categories to the highly sophisticated professionals. Uyi will be bringing to this training his very vast and youthful experience in geospatial intelligence as it relates to Agriculture and Natural Resource Management
